Derry/Londonderry is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland. The old walled city lies on the west bank of the River Foyle and is known for being the only existing walled city in Ireland and one of the most exceptional walled cities in Europe. The Irish had built the city walls to protect themselves from England and Scotland during the early seventeenth century.
Hop off at the Museum of Free Derry which contains many interesting & diverse artifacts from Bloody Sunday and its after effects. For those who appreciate architecture will also enjoy a visit to St. Eugene's Cathedral. It was built between the years of 1849-1873 and is the "Mother Church" for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Derry. Along with St.Eugenes make sure you take a look at the St. Columb's Cathedral & St. Augustine's Church, both have tours available where you can take in the remarkable history and marvel at the stunning architecture. Another must see is the People’s Gallery which gives you an insight into the conflict that spawned across 3 decades.
During the evening there is still plenty to do as pubs, bars & nightclubs dominate the nightlife in and around the city. Whether a traditional pub playing Irish music takes yours fancy or whether a contemporary modern bar is more your style: Derry’s varied nightlife has it all!
