Our Crypts and Catacombs Tour takes you deeper into the strange history of Rome, to the core of this ancient city.  We visit three unforgettable sites with one thing in common – these are the most unusual and outlandish places in the Eternal City.

• Visit the famous Capuchin ‘Bone Chapel,’ an underground chapel where the Capuchins have used the bones of 4,000 monks to decorate.
• Step back in time at Basilica San Clemente!  Descend from a 14th century Basilica through an ancient cult site and countless layers of history.
• Explore ancient tunnels and Artwork at the 2nd century Catacombs of Rome, testament to a time when Christianity was illegal and where they celebrated their religion and their dead in these long dark tunnels.
• You will have free time to have dinner at a local restaurant or to explore the city center.
• See the historic heart of Rome in a new light, exploring some of its most famous sights and hearing the secret stories behind them on our original Rome night tour.
• Our expert English-speaking guides are experienced storytellers who will tell you the tales you won’t hear on other tours – about funeral rites, murders, mystery, and executions that took place through the centuries.
• With small groups of only 20 people or less, your guide will be easy to interact with, making your tour a more intimate experience.

Tour Departure Time:

• Crypts and Catacombs: 2:30PM
• Dark Heart of Rome: 8PM and 9.15PM; Your guide will advise you of your starting time after your 2.30PM Crypts and Catacombs tour.

Meeting Time:

• Crypts and Catacombs: 2:15PM 
• Dark Heart of Rome: 15min prior to start time

Duration: 8.25HRS (3.5 hours Crypts and Catacombs tour and 1.5 hours Dark Heart of Rome tour)

Meeting Point:

Crypts and Catacombs: In the centre of Piazza Barberini, by the large Triton (Tritone) fountain.  Piazza Barberini is located at the metro stop “Barberini” on metro line A (red line). This tour ends back at Piazza Barberini at around 6pm.

Dark Heart of Rome Tour: On the steps of the church San Andrea della Valle, which is located on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II about 150 meters from Largo di Torre Argentina, on the left hand side heading towards the Tiber river. The church is located right next to Piazza Vidoni and Piazza Sant’Andrea della Valle. This tour ends at Castel Sant' Angelo from where public transport and taxis are easily accessible.
