If you’re fully vaccinated, you will no longer need to take a COVID-19 test either before or after you arrive in the UK. You still need to complete a passenger locator form.
If you are not fully vaccinated you will need to take a pre-departure test. After you arrive, you will need to take a PCR test on or before day 2, but you will only need to quarantine if it’s positive. You still need to complete a passenger locator form.
Latest Update 7th January 2022
From 4am on 7 January, if you qualify as fully vaccinated or are under 18, you do not need to take a PCR test before you travel to England or self-isolate when you arrive.
From 4am on 9 January, if you qualify as fully vaccinated, you can take either a rapid lateral flow or PCR test within 2 days of arriving in England. If you have a positive result on the rapid lateral flow test, you must take a PCR test.

Changes to pre-departure testing from 4am, Tuesday 7 December 2021
From 4am, Tuesday 7 December all people aged 12 years and over must take a PCR or LFD COVID-19 test before they travel to England from abroad.
You must take the test in the 2 days before your service to England departs. If your journey to England is a multi-leg journey, you must take the test in the 2 days before the start of the first leg.
This will apply whether you qualify as fully vaccinated or not.

Travelling internationally from England
There are no longer any restrictions on leaving England to travel internationally, however to protect public health in the UK and the vaccine rollout, you should not travel to countries on the red list.
If you travel to ANY country or territory, you should look at the rules in place for your destination AND the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCO)
You should do this even if you are returning to a place, you have visited before.
What you must do when you arrive in England from abroad depends on where you have been in the 10 days before you arrive.

If conditions change in a country or territory, it can be moved from the amber list to the red list. If there is a sudden change in conditions, a country or territory may be moved between lists without warning.
